The following packages have unmet dependencies:
chromium : Depends: libevent-1.4-2 (>= 1.4.14b-stable) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
something seems bung, anyone have a solution... this konqueror is killing me!
Temporary glitch - libevent-1.4 is gone from the archive, the current one is libevent-2.0; chromium needs to be rebuild against the new version. If you want you can enable 'testing' addition to 'unstable' in your sources.list temporary (the manual tells you how), this should enable APT to find it.
But chromium seems to be a bit buggy if i look at the bugreports…
There are a bunch of alternatives like the obvious iceweasel (renamed firefox). And the kde default one isn't that bad either
on another note is there a command line way of searching for packages with apt-get?
with yum I used to do something like this
#yum list |grep -i whateverIwanttoinstall
I really dont like to have to use gui tools for this kind of basic stuff
I like you now.
apt-cache pkgnames # will show you all package names, provide some characters and it will only show packages starting with them
apt-cache search webbroser # (suprise suprise) searches for webbrowser in the description and the name of the package -- with the flag -n you can say that you only want to search in the name
apt-cache is part of APT and installed by default. There is also 'axi-cache' which has a superior search based on a "real" searchengine, not just stringmatching. You can find this tool in the package apt-xapian-index.
