Post subject: "Test WP failed, ..." in virtual terminals

In my virtual teminals, these message lines keep showing up
[14007.045077] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdb] Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
[14007.047318] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdb] Asking for cache data failed
[14007.047334] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
and overwriting anything else that happens to be onscreen, such as mc.
It only writes the messages in the terminal which is on, even if other terminals
have active logins.
and in /var/log/kern.log

I googled the first line, "Test WP ...", and it seems to show up in other contexts, mostly
storage device connections or mounts, but a few people did report this same behavior in the
TTY1 - TTY6 terminals. I notice in htop that a fork from udisks-daemon is "polling /dev/sdb /dev/sr0".
My /dev/sdb is a card reader, with no card in it.
I assume that "WP" refers to a write-protect switch in the device.
I have started looking into the configuration of udisks-daemon, and I will continue, but right off
it seems convoluted , multi-layered.
Has this behavior been addressed here already?
Could anyone refer me to where this configuration is? |

| At best, it's a very bad USB stick I wouldn't trust for any data - at worst it's one of your HDDs (check cabling as well). |

I am having the same issue with an external harddisk - when it is connected to an external USB-hub.
When connected directly to any USB port of the machine it doesn't display these messages (and other failures). |

could well be a faulty USB hub..try it with another one. It is preferable if things like external HD's and CD-ROMS that are high speed to use the USB port directly and not thru a hub |
