Post subject: [SOLVED]nvidia GeForce 6150 LE adapter and 3.3-0 kernels

I have an older desktop with an Asus motherboard. The on-board graphics adapter is an nvidia GeForce 6150 LE, and the monitor is an NEC with native resolution of 1280 x1024. I have been using KMS for quite a while without any problems whatever. Since upgrading to a 3.3-0 kernel, though, the resolution has defaulted to 1024 x 768.
So far as I can determine, I have not changed any settings. When I boot into 3.2-11.slh.3, the resolution defaults to 1280 x 1024.
Any help here? Was there a change in the 3.3-0 kernels that means that KMS no longer supports this somewhat aging video chip? |

| Is this issue related to "Can't get dual head working under 3.3 kernel" - seems more than coincidence |

| I cannot help on that. I've never tried to get dual head working on this box. |

There is one patch regarding ath9k in 3.3.0-2:
ath9k-fix-going-to-full-sleep-on-ps-idle
Maybe this cause the problem!?

I don't think so. I seemed to have resolved the issue. Turns out that xserver-xorg-video-nouveau was uninstalled without my knowing it during some recent upgrade. I don't know why the resolution remained at 1280x1024 in the older kernel, but it did, though I could not select other resolutions. Once I re-installed xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, screen resolution defaulted to 1280x1024 when I booted into the latest kernel -- 3.3-0.slh.6.
I did not think to check if xserver-xorg-video-nouveau was installed until I du'd today. Still do not have any idea how or when it was uninstalled. |
