looks like you got the buggy library "libpcre3"
You should try to d-u your system again ( using ethernet) |

If have exactly the same problem with the same wireless card.
libpcre3 is version 8.30-4
Older kernels work without problem. But with 3.3.0-3 i got this timeout issue.

I confirm the problem, same here.
Observed behaviour:
It can connect to a wireless network only immediately after the reboot of the laptop.
If after that the network is lost for whatever reason, it cannot reconnect anymore, but instead hangs on "Authenticating..." forever (in wpa_gui).
Network "lost" can be triggered manually by switching to different network, suspending/resuming laptop etc.
And then it cannot be ever reconnected, unless rebooted.
The problem is related to 3.3-0.slh.3 kernel. And maybe ath9 driver as I notice the topic starter uses atheros as well.
Older kernels work fine (so I deleted 3.3-0.slh.3 kernel).
Code:
Host/Kernel/OS "siddie-new" running Linux 3.3-0.slh.1-aptosid-amd64 x86_64 [ aptosid 2011-01 Γῆρας - kde-lite - (201102051540) ]
