hello to all! 8D

i did a fsck on a 20g fat32 partition on my external hdd:

      Code:
root@asidbox64:/home/ike# fsck /dev/sdc7
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
dosfsck 3.0.12, 29 Oct 2011, FAT32, LFN
There are differences between boot sector and its backup.
Differences: (offset:original/backup)
  71:32/20, 72:30/20, 73:47/20, 74:46/20, 75:41/20, 76:54/20, 77:33/20
  , 78:32/20, 79:00/20, 80:00/20, 81:00/20
1) Copy original to backup
2) Copy backup to original
3) No action
?

perhaps this was caused by one of the many power failures here in Thailand.

anyway, could someone please help me with the correct response?

thank you in advance for any help. best to all, ike.

There is no generic correct solution for this, it depends on the damage that hit your filesystem. No one can tell you (without checking a hexdump and much knowledge about fs internals) if the original or the backup got damaged.

The pragmatic action here is "3", no action, then make a block level backup of that partition, fsck while randomly making a decision and then to check the results. If you want to play it very safe, you pick both alternatives in different passes and compare the results.
