DU would remove libcupsdriver1. Is it OK to let it go?

Yes, although the new upstream version of CUPS might introduce its own share of problems (can be worked around, but Apple is crippling CUPS quite a bit).

If that is the case I'm sure someday there will be a replacement for CUPS
