Hi,

About a week ago I did a dist-upgrade and my samba shares broke and I think it could have been related to this bug.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=726472

Now this bug seems to be fixed and now I have version 2:4.0.10+dfsg-4 installed.

I actually purged samba to start fresh again. But I still cannot access my share. It will still ask for a username and password even though I have guests are allowed.

I checked the log file and this is what in the log:

      Code:

2013/11/07 19:47:19.906214,  0] ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4332(process_usershare_file)
  process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/video failed. Permission denied
[2013/11/07 19:47:19.907233,  0] ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4332(process_usershare_file)
  process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/video failed. No such file or di
rectory

The permissions on this folder look like the following:

      Code:

drwxr-xr-x  5 root root         4096 Nov  7 19:45 .
drwxr-xr-x 54 root root         4096 Nov  7 19:45 ..
-rw-------  1 root root       421888 Nov  7 19:45 account_policy.tdb
-rw-------  1 root root          696 Nov  7 19:45 group_mapping.tdb
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root         4096 Nov  7 19:45 printers
drwxr-xr-x  2 root root         4096 Nov  7 19:45 private
-rw-------  1 root root       528384 Nov  7 19:45 registry.tdb
-rw-------  1 root root       421888 Nov  7 19:45 share_info.tdb
drwxrwx--T  2 root sambashare   4096 Nov  7 19:45 usershares

I have attached my smb.conf to review to see if there are any config issues. The file is named smb.zip but just rename it to smb.conf. It is not actually compressed.

If any other info is needed let me know.

Thank you for any help.

smb.zip

I have added another share called recipies and this one I can browse just fine from my tablet and my computer.

This is what I have added to my smb.conf for this share. This share is configured the same as the other share that does not work. I do not understand why one could work and another not work. Both folders have permissions as 755.

      Code:

[recipies]
  comment = recipies
  path = /home/bmorency/Documents/Recipies
  read only = yes
  guest ok = yes

I got it working when I specified which users can connect to the share. I removed the guest access and put the line

valid users = myusername

and than added the user to the smbpasswd list. Not sure what I was doing wrong for guest access though.
