Back in the sidux days, I used to use smxi to install video drivers.
What is the aptosid recommended way of installing ATI Radeon proprietary drivers? |

I've ever thought fglrx is a package that is always or most of the time broken/unstable!? |

I'm talking about drivers written by ATI, not open source drivers.
I want to be able to throttle the fan speed & the clock speed
of my Radeon HD 5750, depending on the graphics load. |

Did you already ask the company who manufactured and sold the card, and is the the author of this closed source driver software? No one else can fix the ongoing problems with their product on new kernels. And if more people complain, chances are getting better that they will improve their product.
Until that happens, better stick with working combinations of kernels and drivers, and upgrade both just in case you are sure they will work together again. Exception: you are interested in testing and hacking stuff, and writing bug reports.
Greetings,
Chris |

Hey,
there is currently no way to get the fglrx driver to work in my opinion.
The package that is in _experimental_ is already outdated and the driver from amd.com does not work as well.
The "good" news is: it's broken in ubuntu 10.10 as well
Well, at least AMD supports the development of the radeon driver and released some specs, so in a long term view we are better of with AMD than with nvidia cards. |
