I have 2 laptops w/aptosid, and each are up-to-date
within the last day or two. Both run 32-bit, and were
installed from same Live-DVD.

Yet, their kernels are different versions. Why?

Well, as a first guess...

Perhaps you don't have the kernel meta package (linux-image-2.6-aptosid-686 and it's corresponding header package: linux-headers-2.6-aptosid-686) that automatically pulls in the newest available kernel installed on the laptop running the older kernel?

Did not manually remove the kernel meta-packages we provide (or set some holds)?
Did you use a 3rd-party maintenace script on those systems?
Greetings,
Chris

@Devil: There are NO pending dist-upgrades on either system.
[Thought I stated that in base-post.]

@Slam: Not that I recall. What would be the NAME of such a meta-package?
No, no holds that I knowingly set. And, no, no
3rd-party tools...I do 'apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade' at run-level-3, to update my systems.

Am I correct in assuming that the system at 2.6.35 SHOULD have
upgraded to 2.6.36? (I just re-tried dist-upgrade on it,
to be sure that it's current.)

Is there a meta-package-name that I can try to install that would then cause the 2.6.35 system to upgrade its kernel?

Yes, they're both installed:

[Ditto for the 'headers' pkg.]

Yes, on 2.6.35-kernel laptop, they're both installed, according to 'apt-cache policy':
      Quote:

linux-image-2.6-aptosid-686:
Installed: 2.6.35-25
Candidate: 2.6.35-25
Version table:
*** 2.6.35-25 0

[Ditto for the 'headers' pkg.]

It's a Lenovo ThinkPad, 1 year old.

Then on your currently 2.6.35 kernel PC, you either
1) have not rebooted yet after upgrading the kernel
or
2) you have rebooted with older 2.6.35 kernel.

Use kernel-remover to have only one kernel.

This, is not a good advice.
It's better to keep at least one old kernel that's known to work well.

Not sure exactly, but somehow the 'gpg' key for the sidux repo isn't getting recognised. Has
to do with some similar threads I found where some others were also having problem where
'keyring' package (with slh's new key for aptosid) didn't get installed or updated.

Anyway, now that I KNOW/SEE the problem, I'm not gonna bother to try to fix it. I'll be doing
a fresh install in a month or so, and the problem will get fixed from that.

Thanks for all the help/ideas! Marking this one solved.

Thanks, I had gotten that far, but get an error from that, and
haven't figured out exactly why yet:

      Quote:
Err http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/sidux/debian/ sid/main aptosid-archive-keyring all 2010.08.30

Failed to fetch http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/sidux/de ... 30_all.deb 404 Not Found

Fwiw, the line from my 'sidux.list' repo defn file is:

      Quote:

deb http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/sidux/debian/ sid main contrib non-free fix.main fix.contrib fix.non-free
