If I play mp3-files or videos the sound is almost inaudible.
When I start kmix nothing happens. Not even a message.
I already did
apt-get remove kmix --purge
apt-get install kmix
but to no result.
The system settings state that speakers are turned to the max.
Any help appreciated |

Card: MDA digital
Chip: Conexant CX 20549
Master and PCM are set to 95% (if I put it higher it doesn`t get much louder but the speaker starts to screeeek - especially when master is set to 100%. |

If you are already driving the speakers into distortion, then the problem may not be inside the computer at all.
Is this system new (to you)? Has it ever played audio at a higher volume? Where do the speakers get power from -- could the external power supply be failing, or something like that? |

cat /proc/asound/modules:
0 snd_hda_intel
The system is not new but 2 years old. It is a laptop with built in speakers.
I am not too much into m*ltim*dia. But I like to listen to lectures from time to time and you can only understand the speaker when sitting directly in front of the laptop and turning everything to the max.
I had this problem b4 - with sidux once. But it resolved. As stated above I am not a frequent user of this kind of outputdevice. |

I don't have any. But I could ask my daughter when she is back from school in the afternoon.
I will check it. |

Okay I checked it with headphones. Well, sound is better and the speaker is well audible.
But unfortunately I do not like headphones, and the sound is not 'loud' but at least clear an loud enough.
Actually I like to listen to lectures while sorting papers for my work or do other stuff in my office - which means I move around the room and this is not possible with wires attached.
So actually instead of buying IR- or bluetooth-headphones I'd rather spend some money on external speakers.
Thanks for your help. |

it could be that the card needs some parameters, as dibl hinted. if a similar model with the same card is listed, it might be worth a try.
