During installation it gives the following warnings:
Quote:
Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rt/8168d/rtl8169d-1.fw for module r8169
Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rt/8168d/rtl8169d-2.fw for module r8169
However using that kernel I don't have any problem. |

this is not an upgrade warning, as you will get those messages if you own a device with r8169, but possibly dont have the firmware installed. moving to hardware.

Same problem for me and it persists with the 3.6.36-1.slh.4. However, this warning was absent with the previous upgrades. Has anyone an explanation ? |

bigger kernel updates tend to give me a similar message about b43 firmware for me as i use the opensource openfwwf one (which doesn't official support my card revision) and not the closed source one from broadcom…
As devil already said: If everything works for you, just ignore it. The message is target at user for which it doesn't work - but how should the kernel check if it will work after boot? Right, it can't, so better save than sorry… |

Yes !
But I wondered why I didn't get this warning with the previous kernels. |

A new kernel may contain new driver modules
A new driver module may have support for more hardware
New hardware support may require new firmware blobs
New firmware blobs may not be packaged in sync with new kernel (for whatever reason) |
