Hit http://ftp.th.debian.org sid/contrib i386 Packages/DiffIndex
Hit http://ftp.th.debian.org sid/non-free i386 Packages/DiffIndex

and so on ...
if that is there than you cache the information and the dist-upgrade should pull the packages in ???

Sorry than I don't really know why

I think something is wrong with my system from a while back. When aptosid makes a release I'll start fresh.

hmm well aptosid is there. apt-get dist-upgrade should pull in at least 50mb?
sorry I can not see why this is NOT happening.

by the way i would change your virtualbox from lenny to deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian squeeze non-free
lenny is way to old.
Has nothing to do with your problem ... But Smile

Ok, will do se7en. Thanks for the heads up. Thanks for the valiant effort. Maybe someone else will have an idea. If not, I'll re-install when aptosid makes their first release.

Thanks,
Mike

A step by step how to for the upgrade would really be appreciated. I'm still not sure what we need to change to make sure we dist-upgrade with the correct packages.

Also, thank you very much for keeping this project alive.

Hi all

Everything went fine here too. Just one thing though; when i update, i get the following:

W: Failed to fetch http://aptosid.office-vienna.at/aptosid ... id/Release Unable to find expected entry contrib/binary-amd64/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

W: Failed to fetch ftp://ftp.spline.de/pub/aptosid/debian/ ... id/Release Unable to find expected entry contrib/binary-amd64/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Am i missing something?

Things appeared to go fine here . . . pulled in all the aptosid packages . . . . . but like the others above, no questions

You miss a codebox instead of bold text Wink

No seriously: aptosid doesn't provide contrib, non-free, fix.contrib and alike. We never shipped and never supported contrib and non-free material so these directories were empty all the time in sidux and we choosed to remove them in aptosid.

So, everything you need is:
      Code:
deb http://aptosid.de/debian/ sid main fix.main

but if i am not completely wrong our upgrade packages should have fixed it for you automatically…

No questions could mean that you have configured debconf to never ask questions. In this case it will always apply the default. You can configure this with "dpkg-reconfigure debconf" as root. Best of choosing "Dialog" as frontend as you can't choose "KDE" or "GNOME" for hopefully obvious reasons Wink

The news "Welcome tp aptosid" mentions:

      Code:
...A seamless crossgrade path from sidux to aptosid will be
provided until the end of 2010...

So, may I kindly ask, if somebody can explain/clear that up for me?

Can one do a d-u now or wait until end of 2010? Are the above cited statements contradictionary? Or do I just not understand correctly?

Thanks for help!

The upgrade path is there already, and we make sure it will will work until end of the year.

apt-get update and dist-upgrade worked fine. at second dist-upgrade it installed the new aptosid kernel. I was left will lot of sidux art-and-so packages so I suppose I'll have to manually remove those...

Sorry, but I'm lost.

I did the update/dist-upgrade without changing anything, and I did not get any message about switching to aptosid.

When you say, "change mirror to sidux.com/debian", would you be more specific as to what to change? Which file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d do I change, and what do I change to?

I tried changing the sidux.list file from:
deb ftp://ftp.spline.de/pub/sidux/debian/ sid main fix.main contrib non-free

to

deb ftp://sidux.com/debian/ sid main fix.main contrib non-free

but this is apparently wrong, as update reports it is unable to connect.

Thanks for any assistance.

From old "sidux" manual (now offline) in the download mirror page:

      Quote:

(sidux repository only)
http://sidux.com
deb http://sidux.com/debian/ sid main fix.main
# deb-src http://sidux.com/debian/ sid main fix.main

so, the problem was that sidux.com repository worked only with http protocol, not ftp. so you couldn't update.

now, I think you should once delete aptosid.list, change the sidux.list to abave quote, then apt-get update and dist-upgrade.
Hope it works. (unless you have already newer version of transition package from aptosid repo...)

Transition as described by bfree worked fine for my laptops.

Thanks a lot to all devs, team members and supporters for ongoing and future development.

Past time to change those things was doubtlessly not easy for all of you folks.

Thanks again for aptosid.
