the reason is that BKL (Big Kernel Lock) is history with 2.6.37 (at least with our kernels)
virtualbox and kvm work.

That you must ask the vmware guys. We don't know, if they are able to remove BKL dependency in their kernel modules.
Btw, vmware doesn't support 2.6.37 at the moment, without inofficial patches.

Crossover is not virtualisation.
And crossover or wine has nothing to do with kernels.

No problems at all, actually I am testing right now the new Crossover-Pro 10.0.0-beta2 with no issues.

Greetings,

agaida has done it already, and provides a bkl kernel in his new repo

      Code:
deb     http://debian.alfgaida.de/ unstable main
deb-src http://debian.alfgaida.de/ unstable main

but nevertheless you will have to patch the modul sources of vmware to make them install.
