Hello,
I have to get a middle (to upper) class laptop and it must be compatible with aptosid.
I prefer Dell & lenovo. It would be greatly appreciated If anyone can suggest any of those laptops.
Regards

I have a lenovo t500 (2082-7sg) that works excellent with aptosid. Things that doesn't work: fingerprintscanner and tpm (both are useless anyway)
for thinkpads and linux look here http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki |

I keep off from Dell.
My friend got one last year, the speakers are placed at the bottom and audio hardly audible.
Acer & Acer. And always AMD.
Value for money, rugged build. And they give withouts W$ too.
Acer is no.2 after HP-Compaq. |

Don't by a notebook with optimus or intel/ati hybrid graphics.
Optimus will never work, intel/ati hybrid is hard to get running. |

That is what i have, and it works out of the box without fuss.
EDIT: oh yes if a cheatcode at boot is fuss, it needs the radeon.modeset=0
Defaults to the intel card. If you want no fuss at all just disable any of the cards in bios and run on the other. And for the adventoruos theres switcheroo |

Here is an Australian laptop retailer's website ... each computer has a linux compatibility rating, and the product range is mid to high level.
http://www.vgcomputing.com.au/
It seems you won't go wrong with a Thinkpad. If you don't know much about them, look at wikipedia which explains the differences between the different Thinkpad series. The T series is the flagship range.
As for Dell, the Latitude range is pretty good.
I'm probably going to get an HP EliteBook for my next laptop, and I'll probably go for Nvidia graphics. |

Thank you all for the answers
dpt
Dell has one of the best services around in my country. They collect the laptop from home/office and they give an other similar till the time that will fix or replace the defective.
Accer is a no-go option. It has terribly quality and horrible service (at least in my country).

I am not going for notebook but laptop. Actually, I am going to get one with intel & AMD card. I have a PC with intergrated HD3200 and I am quite happy. I don't trust nvidia (for laptops) and I don't like closed drivers.

Probably I will need you help soon

I have to agree with this, amd/nvidia is probably the best/out of box/hassle-free experience there is, lets not forget about cost too |

@snvv
What is the difference between a notebook and a laptop?
All 3 machines at my home are AMD64+ATI. I will stick to this in future as 64-bit Linux is
AMD64 and ATI is now owned by AMD. Value for money in my opinion. |

Hi. I avoid Dell like the palgue! Years ago they made quality products, but now they have taken over the title of "most cheaply made crap in the universe" from e-machines, You can't go wrong with a Thinkpad! |

Low RAM, No dedicated RAM for Graphics, you will have to dedicate some to Graphics, min 128MB, typically
256.
But price seems to be OK for the specs.
Depends on what you want to do. |
