@ToZ: gpointing-device-settings was not helpful unfortunately (I'm with xfce too, or E17 sometimes). Is there a specific configuration after installation of the package ?
The only config I did was adjust the Acceleration setting on the Speed tab. However, now after reboot, the settings are not saved. After some research, it appears that gnome-settings-daemon is required to save and restore settings - and I don't want to run that. Perhaps the 10-synaptics.conf file is the way to go. I will give that a try as well. |

After installing kde-config-touchpad and adjusting the settings I'm back to 'normal'. I will set the topic to solved. |

@ hubi,
after installing kde-config-touchpad and adjusting the acceleration, my touchpad works fine again. Thank you!

It seems after today's DU that the default settings give a normal speed to the pointer again. The good thing in this (now fixed) bug is that it made me discover the kde-config-touchpad features. I particularly like the "automatic touchpad control" settings... |

I can confirm, today dist-upgrade (first one after a fresh-install) let the touchpad pointer with a normal speed. Using xfce. |

That depends what's in it. The aptosid configuration for touchpads through udev-config-aptosid is in:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/51-synaptics-aptosid.conf
If you need a custom setting (like I do with horizontal scrolling with synaptics touchpads) it's always better to create a custom file than to adapt the aptosid configuration file (it will not be overwritten).

Sorry I don't have a response for this. When I had the problem with slow speed, I made a fresh install and waited until today to d-u. I suppose you could try to delete that .conf, reboot, and re-create it if the problem persist.
p.s. better listen to hubi |

Hubi,
Thank for the gpointing-device-settings tip. I now have the software patent free 2 sausage interface enabled.
Cheers,
