I'm using the following grub version
      Code:
grub-pc:
  Installed: 1.99~rc1-2
  Candidate: 1.99~rc1-2
  Version table:
 *** 1.99~rc1-2 0
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
The command to disable the recovery mode entries has changed from
      Code:
GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY="true"
to
      Code:
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true"
in case someone wonders why the entries are still visible.

Best Regards,
Sordon

Looks like that it was fixed with version 1.99~rc1-3 of grub-pc by setting the new value now in /etc/default/grub
