Not exactly sure what happened. I'm running the 64 bit version on a Thinkpad T400. I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.37-3-slh-2 and rebooted. Nothing else upgraded with the kernel-upgrade. I didn't pay attention to the boot messages, but was able to log in. Within a couple of minutes, I started getting DNS server error messages in chromium and could not navigate to any page. Checked my wireless connection and it was intact with strong signal. Then I noticed my clock had jumped 5 hours. Could not open system settings to reset. Opened a console window and the prompt began with "I have no name" followed by computer name. I rebooted. On reboot, I had an error message something like the this: startpar: system returned failure hwclockfirst.sh failed! Boot continued to prompt login. I tried to log in as root, but the password failed every time.
I tried booting to a previous kernel and had the same results. That leads me to think it's not the kernel. Something seems to have become corrupted, but I don't have access to any error logs at the moment.
Googling in Windows did not give me any clues what to do next. Any suggestions? |
