Well, I think this patch causes a real problem for nvidia users because the nouveau driver doesn't seem to work correctly.

For now, you can chose .37 kernel to boot.

Yes, but I have to re-install the nvidia driver because that doesn't solve my problem with nouveau.

What about using the frickel kernel from frickelplatz.de? On my machine it is running without any problems. The nvidea-driver were build using dkms.

How can I find out the list of kernel patches applied to the aptosid kernel? Are they provided along with the headers?

OK. Thanks. I have finally built the vanilla 2.6.38 kernel with the aptosid config file (I just selected the Core 2 processor instead of the generic options) but without the merges and patches. The Nvidia drivers and the VirtualBox module build just fine against this kernel. In order to build the kernel I needed to build Binutils 2.21 from source first. Apparently the development branch installed in Sid is not compatible with the sources of 2.6.37 and 2.6.38. Maybe it is not compatible with any kernel sources, but I have found bug reports only for the most recent ones.

Everything is running fine this far. I have tried to register in the NVnews forum in order to put some pressure on the Nvidia developers to remove pointless dependencies such as bkl. However, I have not been able to register because I seem to be unable to go through the bot-catcher image...

Can anyone explain how to revert the patch (if possible, step by step, please)?

1. Get the sources
2. Go to the unpack directory
3. patch -Rp1 < debian/patches/features/bkl/0019-BKL-That-s-all-folks.patch
4. Build the kernel. Wink (You should read and understand the debian/rules first)

towo, can you tell us what is the difference between your kernel and slh's (if the difference is small)? Is it just the slh kernel with this patch reverted and power top enabled or do you build it from scratch on your own?

Thanks,

Luis

At the moment the diff is the removed patch, timer-stats activated and included firmware blobs.

agaida, thanks it worked. I have now the aptosid kernel with the bkl headers (and specific for the core 2 architecture).

I will try to install the nvidia drivers now.

However, when following the instructions from here:

http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... osidKernel

I got an error about an unclean target or whatever suggesting me to run "make mrproper", which I did. This resulted in the debian directory being removed and therefore I had to build the kernel using make-kpkg as usual instead of using the rules.gen file...

Apart from containing the bkl headers and being core 2-specific, is there any difference between the kernel I built and the aptosid kernel? I mean that all the other patches and merges were applied and the config file was the same, right?

Done. Nvidia drivers and VBox modules installed. I guess my kernel is now as close to the original aptosid one as it can be.

I have an off-topic question: I have noticed that when I close an xfce-terminal (64 bit) in which I have logged in as root, the screen blinks like if it was a fast X server reboot. Has anyone noticed this behaviour? Nothing bad appears to happen, just a couple of very fast blinks with a blank screen in between.

This is not a bug, it's a feature.
Use ctrl+d instead of klicking the X.
